Chap. 375.—An ACT for the relief of J. J. Henritze, late treasurer of
Russell county, and his sureties.
Approved March 2, 1888.
Whereas on the eleventh day of February, eighteen hun-
dred and cighty-six, judgment was obtained in favor of, the
commonwealth against J. J. Henritze, late treasurer of Rus-
sell county, and his sureties, for the sum of two thousand two
hundred and twenty-nine dollars and twenty-eight cents, with
interest and costs as set forth in said judgment; and whereas
the said J. J. Henritze claims that he paid into the office of
the auditor ot public accounts, on account of the revenues of
eighteen hundred and seventy-eight, the sum of five thousand
three hundred and thirty-nine dollars and fifty cents, and
that he had a receipt therefor, which has been lost; and
whereas it is shown that the question as to the absolute cor-
rectness of said claim of payment cannot be definitely deter-
mined on account of the irregularities in said auditor’s office
during the occupancy of William R. Smith, as late chief clerk
in said auditor’s office; therefore,
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
the auditor of public accounts be and he is hereby authorized
to receive from said J. J. Henritze, or his sureties, the bonds
of the commonwealth issued in pursuance of the act of Feb-
ruary fourteenth, eighteen hundred and eighty-two, com-
monly known as the Riddleberger bonds in payment of said
judgment, and credit said judgment with the face value of
said bonds.
2. This act shall be in force on and after the first day of
April, eighteen bundred and eighty-eight.
