Chap. 315.—An ACT for the relief of the tax-payers of Mathews
county.
Approved March 1, 1888.
Whereas, there was necessary delay in making the county
levy of Mathews county for the year eighteen hundred and
eighty-seven, and the commissioner’s books did not go into
the hands of the treasurer of said county until so late that
tax-payers could not have an opportunity to pay their taxes
before December first, and save the addition of five per cen-
tum, as provided for by section eighteen, chapter sixty, acts
of special session of eighteen hundred and seventy-nine: and
whereas, for this reason, the said treasurer extended the time
for payment, without the addition of five per centum, to De-
cember the twelfth (county court day), in order to give the
tax-payers of said county an opportunity to save the said ad-
dition, and posted notices, as required by said act, giving no-
tice of said extension of time; therefore,
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
the auditor of public accounts and the board of supervisors of
Mathews county, be and they are hereby authorized, in their
settlements with the treasurer of said county for the taxes
of the year eighteen hundred and eighty-seven, to charge the
addition of five per centum only upon taxes paid to him
after the twelfth day of December of that year.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
