Chap. 301.—An ACT to incorporate the Sun Mutual Aid association.
Approved February 29, 1888.
1. Beit enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
H. C. Kennedy, W. W. Evans, A. W. Harris, W. H. Ash, R.
W. Whiting, H. L. Harris, A. J. Smith, T. S. Hamlin, Good-
man Brown, J. H. Robinson, and P. B. Ramsey, and such
other persons as may hereafter be associated with them, be
and they are hereby incorporated by the name of the Sun
Mutual Aid association for the purpose of conducting a life
and aid insurance company, with its principal office at such
place as a majority of the above named incorporators may by
resolution at their first meeting decide, after organization by
the election of a president, secretary, general manager, and
such other officers as they may by by-laws establish. The
business of said association shall be conducted by such per-
sons and in such manner as the directors thereof may direct
by their by-laws, said persons giving bond with good and
sufficient sureties for the faithful performance of their duties.
2. The said association shall havea board of directors, con-
sisting of eight members, who shall be elected annually. The
present incorporators shall for the first year act as the board
of directors.
3. The said association shall raise a fund from its members
by weekly, monthly, or annual assessments as they may
think proper, and charge such sums for the same as they
may think expedient and wise for their business: provided,
that the rate charged shall not be such as at any time to
accumulate in their treasury a sum greater than ten thousand
dollars. The said association may appoint agents in any part
of this state upon such termsasthey may think proper. Such
agents shall not be charged any license tax other than such
state tax as are paid at their general office. This association
may have a common seal, may sue and be sued in the courts
of this state. ;
4, This act shall be in force from its passage.
