Chap. 297.—An ACT to release the residue of certain judgments of
the commonwealth against John G. Kasey, treasurer of Bedford
county, and his sureties.
Approved February 29, 1888.
Whereas, on the fourteenth day of November, eighteen
hundred and eighty-three, a judgment was recovered in the
circuit court for the city of Richmond by the commonwealth
of Virginia against John G. Kasey, treasurer of Bedford
county, and R. L. Dearing, R. J. Cunningham, W. Burton,
Tazewell Meodor, John W. Jones, James W. Harris, E. M.
Carnefix, J. W. Kasey, William B. Ayers, J. C. Franklin,
William H. Lee, junior, D. W. Garrett, C. A. Lupton, William
R. Dudley, Mary J. Read, and Rose E. Callaway, his sureties
for the sum of eight thousand eight hundred and twenty dol-

lars and sixty cents, with interest after the rate of twelve
per contum per annum on three thousand six hundred and
sixty-five dollars and fifty-seven cents, a part thereof, from
the fifteenth day of June, eighteen hundred and eighty-two
till payment, and on one thousand and sixteen dollars and
ninety-three cents, another part thereof, from the same date
until payment, and on three thousand eight hundred and
nineteen dollars and ninety-six cents, another part thereof,
from the thirty-first day of May, eighteen hundred and
eighty-two until payment, and on three hundred and seven-
teen dollars and fourteen cents, the residue thereof, from the
first day of December, eighteen hundred and eighty-two, un-
til payment and the costs; and on the fifth day of July, eigh-
teen hundred and eighty-four, another judgment was recov-
ered in said court by the commonwealth of Virginia, against
John A. Wilson, another surety of said John G. Kasey, trea-
surer aforesaid, for the like amount with like interest as
aforesaid; and on the thirty-first day of October, eighteen
hundred and eighty-five, another judgment was recovered in
said court by the commonwealth of Virginia against John C.
Franklin, William H. Lee, junior, William H. Lee, senior,
John W. Jones, W. 8. Jones, and Waddy Burton, administra-
tor of A. H. Everett, deceased, also sureties of said John G.
Kasey, treasurer as aforesaid, for the like amount with like in-
terest as aforesaid—all of which judgments were for the same
debt; and whereas the following payments have been made
on said judgments, to wit, ten thousand six hundred and
thirteen dollars and twenty-eight cents on the twenty-eighth
day of June, eighteen hundred and eighty-six, and one thou-
sand one hundred and ninety-two dollars and fitteen cents on
the ninth day of July, eighteen hundred and eighty-seven,
which payments amount to more than the principal sum of
said judgments and six per centum per annum interest there-
on, and the residue of said judgments being for damage, will,
in effect, have to be paid by the said sureties of the said John
G. Kasey, treasurer; therefore,
1, Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
the residue of said judgments is hereby released, and said:
judgments are declared satisfied.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
