Chap. 287.—An ACT to incorporate the Lambert’s Point turnpike
company.
Approved February 29, 1888.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
Joseph H. Sands, Richard fr Macdonald, Charles Sharp, Na-
thaniel M. Osborne, and William Lamb, and such persons as
are now or may hereafter be associated with them, be and
they are hereby constituted a body politic and corporate by
. the name and style of the Lambert’s Point turnpike company,
with full and adequate powers to’ construct a bridge across
Tarrant’s creek, and a bridge across Lambert's creek in the
county of Norfolk, between Atlantic City and Lambert’s
point, at convenient points with a turnpike connecting the
two bridges: provided, that the bridges hereby authorized
shall be constructed with a suitable draw in each bridge not
less than twenty-five feet wide in the clear, subject however
to the provisions of the general laws of the commonwealth
applicable to such a corporation: and provided further, that
the said turnpike road shall not be less than sixty nor more
than one hundred feet wide.
2. That said company shall have the privilege, in making
said road or any part thereof, to use shell, plank, or any other
material, and shall also be privileged to provide open ditches
on either side of said road to carry off surface water or run-
ning water.
3. That said company shall be and is hereby authorized to
erect a gate or gates across said road at such point as they
may deem expedient, and to charge such reasonable toll as
the board of directors may order.
4. That said company in erecting the bridge over Tarrant’s
creek, may occupy and use the end of any public street in
Atlantic City on said creek, and may construct a proper
abutment and causeway for the bridge, and may also connect
with any of said streets.
. 5. That said company may give or lease to any railway
for passenger traffic the right of way over its bridges or
turnpike.
6. The capital stock of said company shall not be less than
five thousand dollars, and may be increased at any time by
consent of the stockholders to an amount not to exceed
twenty-five thousand dollars, such capital stock to be divided
into shares of twenty-five dollars each, and books of subscrip-
tion therefor may be opened by any three of the corporators
or by such other persons as they may appoint, and at such
time and place as they may select for the purpose of receiv-
ing subscriptions to the capital stock; and when the capital
stock of the par value of five thousand dollars shall have
been subscribed and two dollars per share paid thereon, the
said corporators may proceed to organize the company in
manner and form as is provided generally by law.
%. The said company is hereby authorized to acquire such
Google
land by purchase, donation, or otherwise as may be necessary |
for the business of the company, and to convey and dispose |
of the same.
8. This act shall be in force from its passage.
