Chap. 264.—An ACT to provide for a new registration in the city of
taunton.
Approved February 24, 1888.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
it shall be lawful for the electoral board of the city of Staun-
ton, if a majority of the members of said board shall so
determine, to order during the year eighteen hundred and
eighty-eight, a new registration of the qualified voters in said
city, at such time as they may designate.
2. That each of the registrars of the wards or election
precincts of said city shall on the day to be designated b
said electoral board, proceed to register the names of all
the qualified voters of his ward or precinct who reside there-
in, and according to law entitled to registration, giving notice
of the time and place thereof for at least ten days before
commencing such registration, by posting a notice thereof at
not less than three public places within his precinct. Said
registrar shall complete said registration within ten days
from the time of commencing the same, Sunday excluded,
and shall sit between sunrise and sunset of each day, and
immediately after completing the said registration, shall
cause to be posted at each precinct a list of all persons
admitted by them to registration.
3. That each registrar, in addition to the requirement of
the general registration law, shall enter in a separate column
the names of streets and numbers of residences of said quali-
fied voters; and in transferring any qualified voter from one
ward of the city to another, the registrar shall enter on the
transfer a copy of the description of said voter taken from
the registration book. :
4. In making such registration, and in all registrations
hee pus said registrars shall in,every, particular, except
oogle
as hereinbefore specified, be guided and controlled by the
general registration laws of the state: and the registration
thus made shall have the same force, virtue, and effect as
though the same had been made under the general registra-
tion laws of the state.
5. In all other respects, except as herein provided, the!
duties of the registrars for the city of Staunton shall be the |
same as prescribed in the general registration laws of the
state.
6. The secretary of the commonwealth shall furnish the |
clerk of the hustings court of the city of Staunton with reg- |
istration books necessary to carry out the provisions of this
act.
7. All acts and parts of acts inconsistent with this act are
Horsy repealed. _
8. This act shall be in force from its passage.
