Chap. 261.—An ACT to authorize the surviving trustees of Union
academy, of Appomattox county, to fill vacancies,
Approved February 24, 1888.
Whereas, on the fifth day of March, eighteen hundred and
thirty-nine, an act was passed by the general assembly of
Virginia incorporating the trustees of Union academy, of
Campbell county, in which Zaccheus Cheatham and thirteen
others named in said act were constituted trustees of said
academy, with power to fill such vacancies in said board of
trustees as might arise by death or otherwise; and whereas
it appears that vacancies have occurred from time to time
in said board, which have not been filled as authorized by
said act of incorporation, so that the number of said trustees
now surviving is insufficient, under provisions of said act of
March fifth, eighteen hundred and thirty-nine, to exercise
the powers conferred by said act; and whereas that portion
of Campbell county in which Union academy is situated, has,
since the passage of the act of March fifth, eighteen hundred
and thirty-nine, been embraced in the county of Appomat-
tox; therefore, .
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
John A. Shearer, James M. Carson, and D. P. Robertson,
sole surviving trustees of Union academy, as incorporated
by act passed March fifth, eighteen hundred and thirty-nine,
be and they are hereby empowered to fill all vacancies which
have occurred in said board of trustees, and when said
vacancies shall be so filled, the board then constituted shall
have authority to exercise all the powers and rights con-
ferred by said act of incorporation passed March fifth, eigh-
teen hundred and thirty-nine; and the name of said corpora-
tion shall hereafter be the Appomattox Union academy.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
