Chap. 185.—An ACT to protect rabbits or hares in the counties of
Hanover and Henrico.
Approved February 23, 1888.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
it shall not be lawful for any person to hunt, trap, shoot, or
otherwise kill rabbits or hares in the counties of Hanover
and Henrico between February first and October first of each
year, and any person or persons, offending against this act
shall, upon conviction before a justice of the peace, be fined
not:less than one nor more than ten dollars, to be collected as
other like fines are collected, except that upon a second con-
viction of a violation of this act, the person or persons, so
convicted, shall be fined not less than double the fine imposed
for the first offence: provided that nothing in this act shall
be construed as prohibiting any person from hunting, trap-
ping, shooting or otherwise killing rabbits or hares upon his
own land at any time.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
