Chap. 181.—An ACT for the relief of John A. Roberts and John E.
Roberts, of Charlotte county.

Whereas it appears that there is a tract of land of two
hundred and thirty-seven and one-half acres of land on the
land books of Mecklenburg county, standing in the name of
William Elam’s estate, which was returned delinquent for
the non-payment of taxes for the years eighteen hundred
and seventy-six, eighteen hundred and seventy-seven, eigh-
teen hundred and seventy-eight, eighteen hundred and
seventy-nine, and eighteen hundred and eighty, and it being
claimed that said land was, during these years, the property
of the Philadelphia Catholic colony association; and that it
was sold by decree of the circuit court of Mecklenburg county,
along with a large quantity of other lands, as the property of
said association, and purchased by John A. Roberts and
John EH. Roberts, who claim to be innocent purchasers of said
land, without notice of said delinquent taxes, and who were
mislead into not making application for reliet under the act
of assembly, approved February eighth, eighteen hundred

and eighty-six, by reason of this tract being assessed in the
name of William Elam’s estate; now therefore,
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
it shall be lawful for the said John A. Roberts and John E.
Roberts, at any time within sixty days from the passage of
this act, to make application to the judge of the county court 1
of Mecklenburg, for relief from said delinquent taxes, in j
accordance with the provisions of chapter eighty-seven, Acts ©
of Assembly eighteen hundred and eighty-five-six, and should
said judge be satisfied that they are innocent purchasers of J
said two hundred and thirty-seven and one-half acres of land, °
without notice of said delinquent taxes, and they should be
relieved, then he is authorized to grant relief as though ap-
plication had been made on or before the first day of July,
eighteen hundred and eighty-six, in accordance with said
chapter eighty-seven, Acts of Assembly eighteen hundred and
eighty-five—six. ;
2. This act shall be in force from its passage. (
