Chap. 146.—An ACT to incorporate the Suburban and Exposition rail-
way Comnany _
the name and style of the Suburban and Exposition railway N:
company, and as such may have all the privileges, franchises >;
and immunities applicable to such corporations.
2. The said company shall have power and authority to pc
construct and equip, maintain and operate, a street railway ee
along the streets of the city of Richmond, with the consent ra
of said city, and along the Broad street road by the fair r
grounds to extend five miles outside of the city limits, with
the consent of said city so far as it has jurisdiction over said
road, and with the consent of the county court of Henrico so
far as the said court has jurisdiction of said road. Its cars cs
to be operated or moved either by horse, steam or other power, tf
with the consent of the city council of Richmond or the county ot
court of Henrico county.
3. It shall be lawful for the said company to transport m
passengers, freight and baggage over the line of their railway
and to collect fares and tolls for the same.
4. The capital stock of said corporation shall not be less cs
than five thousand dollars nor more than one hundred thou-
sand dollars, divided into shares of one hundred dollars each.
The above named corporators shall constitute the board of p:
directors of the company, who, until their successors shall be
elected by the stockholders, shall manage the affairs of said .
company. When the minimum amount of capital stock
named shall have been subscribed, they shall proceed to or-
ganize the company. The capital stock of the company may, c:
from time to time, be increased until the maximum amount
named is reached.
5. The said company shall have power to acquire by gift, p.
purchase, or otherwise, and to hold or dispose of real estate, °
not to exceed five hundred acres, in and within five miles of
the city of Richmond, and may grant and convey the same,
either by lease or by deed in tee or in trust. Said company m
may also lay off and beautify lots, squares or parks, to be Me
open to visitors upon such terms as may be deemed best, and
be allowed to charge fees of admission to the same, or any
part thereof.
6. Said company may connect its street railway with other m
street railways now existing, or hereafter incorporated, upon
such terms as may be agreed upon. Said company may lease st
or sell the whole, or any part of its street railway and ap-
Fouseonemnces, to any other connecting street railway, or may
ease or acquire from the owners of such street railway, the
whole, or any part of its street railway or appurtenances. *
7. Said company shall have the power and authority to st
borrow money for the uses of the corporation, and to secure [>
such loans by deed of trust or mortgages on all or part of its
Property or franchises or income, and to make or adopt rules
and regulations, or by-laws as may be necessary for the opera-
tions of the company; and the stockholders shall only be u
liable to the extent of the stock subscribed for by them. -
8. All dues and demands due the commonwealth shall be t:
paid in lawful money of the United States, and not in coupons.
