Chap. 115.—An ACT to authorize the council of the town of Gordons-
ville to issue bonds for the purpose of constructing. water works.
Approved February 8, 1888.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
the council of the town of Gordonsville is hereby authorized
for and on behalf of said town, to issue, or cause to be issued,
bonds to an amount not exceeding ten thousand dollars, each
for the sum of one hundred dollars, bearing interest at a rate
of not exceeding six per centum per annum, payable annu-
ally; the principal of said bonds being payable ten years
after their date, or upon the call of said corporation at any
time after one year trom the date of said bonds.
2. The said bonds shall be signed by the president and
countersigned by the secretary of the said council, and sold
or negotiated at not less than par, and the proceeds used in
the construction or purchase of water works, pipes, mains,
reservoirs and other appliances for the furnishing of said
town, the citizens thereof, and persons residing near thereto,
with a supply of water, and when furnished to such citizens
or persons, the same to be on such terms as may be, from
time te) Gefelixed by such council.
3. The said council shall have the power to purchase any ,
lands or privileges over or right of way through any land
outside of, or within the corporate limits of said town, for the
purpose of establishing the said water works; and if the
council is unable to agree with the owners as to the price of
said land or privileges over or right of way through said
lands, then upon application to the county court of the county
of Orange, the said court shall appoint commissioners to as- .
certain the value of said lands or the damages for the privi-
leges over or right of way through the said lands desired to
be taken for said purposes, and proceed as in like cases as now
provided by law.
4. This act shall be in force from its passage. ,
