Chap. 434.—An ACT to amend and re-enact section 2 of chapter 193
of the Code of 1873, in relation to the adulteration of food or
drink.

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
section two of chapter one hundred and ninety-three of Code
of eighteen hundred and seventy-three, be amended and re-
enacted, so as to read as follows:
§ 2. If any person fraudulently or knowingly adulterate, for
the purpose of sale, anything intended for food or drink, or
any drug or medicine, with barytes or any substance intended
to increase the weight or quantity of such food or drink, or
that may be injurious to health, he shall be deemed guilty of
a misdemeanor, and upon conviction thereof, he shall be con-
fined in jail not more than one year, and fined not exceeding
five hundred dollars, and the adulterated articles shall be for-
feited and destroyed.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
