CHAP. 391.—An ACT to provide compensation for the teachers of
schools where the average attendance of pupils shall not be less
than ten.
Approved March 3, 1886.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
it shall be the duty of the district school boards of the several
counties of the commonwealth, when it shall appear that there
is an urgent demand for a public school in any such district,
and where an average of pupils cannot be made as now provi-
ded by law, it shall be lawful for the said trustees, in cases where
an average of so many as ten pupils can be had, to employ
teachers at a salary bearing the same proportion to the salary
now allowed by law, as the average in attendance at such school
shall bear to the average now required by law.
2. This act shall be in force from the first day of March,
eighteen hundred and eighty six.
