Chap. 384.—An ACT to give the consent of the commonwealth to the
purchase or acquisition of real estate by the United States govern-
ment, in the city of Norfolk, for a site for a public building for the
accommodation of the United States court rooms, post office and
other offices. )
Approved March 3, 1886.
1. Be it enacted by the general assernbly of Virginia, That
the consent of the State of Virginia is hereby given and granted
to the purchase or acquisition by the government of the United
States, or under the authority of the same, of so much land as
may by said government be deemed expedient, for a site for a
public building, for the accommodation of the United States
courts, post office and other government offices, in the city of
Norfolk and state of Virginia.
2. That this state retains concurrent jurisdiction with the
United States over such land, so that courts, magistrates and
officers of this state may take such cognizance, execute such
process and discharge such other legal functions within the
Same as may not be incompatible with the consent hereby
given.
3. The land so acquired together with the tenements and
appurtenances for the purposes before mentioned shall be held
exempt from all state and municipal taxation, so long as the
United States shall be and remain the owners thereof.
4. This act shall be in force from its passage.
