CHAP. 369.—An ACT to amend and re-enact section 1 of chapter 514
Acts of 1883’-4, entitled an act approved March 9, 1880, respecting
wild game, approved March 18, 1884.

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
section one of chapter five hundred and fourteen of the Acts
of eighteen hundred and eighty-three and eighty-four, entitled
an act to amend an act approved March ninth, eighteen hun-
dred and eighty, respecting wild game, approved March eigh-
teenth, eighteen hundred and eighty-four, be amended and re-
enacted, so as to read as follows:
$1. It shall not be lawful, west of the Blue Ridge mountain,
to kill or capture pheasants or wild turkeys, between February
first and September fifteen; and partridges between January
first and October fifteenth; or deer between January first and
August fifteenth; nor elsewhere in the state, partridges, pheas-
ants, or wild turkeys, between January fifteenth and October
fifteenth; or deer between January first and August fifteenth;
nor shall it be lawful within the state to take or destroy the
eggs of any such wild fowl, or catch any such wild fowl with
nets or traps; and the possession of any such eggs or wild game
shall be prima facie evidence of a violation of this act: provi-
ded, that in the county of Rockbridge, no one shall be allowed
to capture or kill partridges between the fifteenth of January
and the fifteenth of October; and in the counties of Essex,
Northumberland and Westmoreland, between the first of Feb-
ruary and the first of November of each year; and in Accomac,
Norfolk county and Princess Anne, between the fifteenth of
February and the fifteenth of November; and in Augusta, Caro-
line and Hanover, between the first of January and the fifteenth
of October: and provided, further, that in the said counties of
Augusta, Caroline and Hanover, it shall be lawful for any per-
son to net partridges on his own land between the fifteenth day
of October and the first day of January: and provided, fur-
ther, that partridges may be killed in the counties of Washing-
ton and Smyth, from the first day of October until the first day
of February: and provided, further, that nothing in this act
shall operate to change in any way the law now in force with
regard to the subject of this act, so far as it applies to the coun-
ties of Patrick and Henry; and this act shall be operative, ex-
cept where otherwise provided by law.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
