CHAP. 365.—An ACT authorizing the board of supervisors of Norfolk
county to levy a license tax for the sale of wine, alcoholic and malt
liquors, for the use and benefit of the free schools of said county.
Approved March 3, 1886.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
the board of supervisors of Norfolk county be and they are
hereby authorized and empowered to levy a license tax upon
persons, clubs or corporations, who are duly licensed by the
state and authorized to sell wine, ardent spirits or malt liquors,
not to exceed in amount that levied by the state upon the sale
of wines, ardent spirits or malt liquors, sold in said county—
the collection of the same to be done in the manner prescribed
for collecting state licenses for the sale of said articles.
2. The proceeds of said license tax shall be used and dis-
tributed by said board of supervisors for the use and benefit of
the free schools of said county, and in such manner and pro-
portion as to them may seem just and equitable.
3. This act shall be in force from its passage.
