Chap. 348.—An ACT to provide for the payment of Maryus Jones,
Esquire, attorney-at-law, for a fee for services rendered the state.
Approved March 1, 1886.
Whereas the constitutionality of the oyster law has been
raised in a suit in the circuit court of Gloucester; and whereas
it was necessary to have counsel in said cause; and whereas
laborious services were performed by said Maryus Jones, which
resulted in the state succeeding in establishing the constitution-
ality of the law, thereby protecting the revenues of the state;
and whereas the auditor of public accounts retained Maryus
Jones, esquire, to defend said suit, with the understanding that
he would look to the general assembly for compensation, as no
provision was made in the law for employing counsel, now,
therefore,
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
the auditor of public accounts be and he is hereby authorized
and directed to draw his warrant upon the treasury in favor of
Maryus Jones for the sum of two hundred and fifty dollars,
payable out of any money in the treasury, not otherwise ap-
propriated, in full of services above recited.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
