CHAP. 300.—An ACT to incorporate the Fauquier Telephone
company.
Approved March 1, 1886.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
J. V. Brooke, W. H. Payne, C. M. White, T. N. Fletcher, A.
M. Carter, J. M. Marshall, Wm. Triplett, George Davis and
A. D. Payne, and such others as may be associated with them,
and their successors, be and hereby are constituted a body
politic and corporate, under the name of the Fauquier Tele-
phone company, and as such may sue and be sued, may have,
make and use a common seal, and the same to alter or change
at pleasure, and may make such by-laws or regulations for the
government of said company as. they may think wise, not in
conflict with the laws of this state, or of the United States.
2, The said corporation shall have authority to acquire,
erect and maintain telephone lines and offices in the county of
Fauquier, and may erect and maintain its lines along the pub-
lic highways, but not to obstruct the same.
3. The capital stock of said company shall not be less than
five hundred, nor more than five thousand dollars, to be di-
vided into shares of ten dollars each.
4. The officers of said company shall be a president, and
secretary, and treasurer, to be elected by the board of direc-
tors, and a board of directors of not less than five, to be elected
by the stockholders in general meeting; and said stockholders
in general meeting shall make suitable by-laws for the govern-
ment of said directors.
5. The liability and responsibility of the stockholders of said
company shall be only to the extent of the stock held and paid
for by them, and for no more and no greater extent.
6. And said company shall have power to connect with lines
of the telephone companies in adjoining counties, on terms to
be agreed upon by said companies.
7. And said company shall pay all taxes and dues to the
commonwealth in lawful money of the United States, and not
in coupons. |
8. This act shall be in force from its passage.
