Chap. 294.—An ACT to amend and re-enact section 4, of an act ap-
proved April 22, 1882, constituting the town of Abingdon a separate
school district.
Approved March 1, 1886.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
the fourth section of an act approved April twenty-second,
eighteen hundred and eighty-two, amending an act to consti-
tute the town of Abingdon, and a certain portion of the sur-
rounding country, as a separate school district, be amended and
re-enacted, so as to read as follows:
§ 4. The council of said town of Abingdon shall have the
power to appoint three school trustees from any part of such
district, to serve one, two and three years respectively, and
annually thereafter it shall appoint a school trustee to serve for
three years. The said trustees shall have power to manage
and regulate the schools, to provide teachers, fix their salaries,
provide for all necessary expenses, and perform all other duties
and be clothed with all the power now vested in trustees of
school districts.
2. The present board of school trustees of Cove City school
district shall remain in office until their term of office shall ex-
pire, and their successors are appointed and qualified.
3. This act shall be in force from its passage.
