Chap. 275.—An ACT for the relief of Joseph Copenhaver.
Approved February 27, 1886.
Whereas, at the October term of the county court of Wythe
county, for eighteen hundred and eighty, a judgment was en-
tered against Joseph Copenhaver, as security for his son, Clar-
ence Copenhaver, who stood indicted‘in said court for forgery,
upon a recognizance; and whereas execution issued upon said
judgment, and the land of said Joseph Copenhaver has been
sold for the payment of said judgment, and bond for the pur-
chaser for the sum of two hundred and fifty dollars, bearing
date sixteenth day of May, eighteen hundred and eighty-one,
was taken by the sheriff making the sale and returned to the
clerk’s office of said court, and is still unpaid; and whereas
said Joseph Copenhaver has filed his petition before the circuit
court of said cotinty, and proceedings were had thereon, as
required by act of assembly approved March ninth, eighteen
hundred and eighty, entitled .an act to provide a uniform mode
of procedure in all cases of application to the general assem-
bly of Virginia for relief from any fine, forfeiture, and so forth,
and it appearing that said procedures recommended the case
of said Copenhaver as a proper one for legislative relief—
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
Joseph Copenhaver, of the county of Wythe, be and he is
hereby relieved from the payment of the judgment of the
county court of Wythe; and that he be allowed to withdraw
from the clerk’s office of said court the bond of C. A. Crause
and B..F. Copenhaver for two hundred and fifty dollars, being
the bond for the purchase money of his land sold for the pay-
ment of said judgment, and that he be authorized to collect,
by suit or otherwise, the said bond, and hold the same for his
own use and benefit.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
