CHAP. 227.—An ACT to incorporate the St. Mary’s Beneficial and
Social Union.
Approved February 26, 1886.
Whereas there has existed for some time past, in the city of
Richmond, an association of persons known as St. Mary’s
Beneficial and Social Union, the purposes and objects of which
are solely benevolent and charitable; and whereas an act of in-
corporation is desired, in order to enable said association to
more effectually carry out the purposes of its organization:
therefore,
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
John M. Hulcher, George B. Bliley, Louis B. Schutte, Andrew
Wiesmann, and Joseph H. Hulcher, and such other persons
as are now or may hereafter become members of the associa-
tion, be and are hereby made a body politic and corporate, by
the name and style of St. Mary’s Beneficial and Social Union,
and by that name may sue and be sued, and plead and be im-
pleaded, in all courts of the commonwealth.
2. The objects of this Association shall be to take care of its
sick and destitute members, to bury its dead, to assist the
widows and children of deceased members, and to encourage
such other works of Christian charity as it may deem fit and
proper to promote the welfare of its members.
3. The said association may take and hold so much real es-
tate and personal property as may be suitable for its objects,
not to exceed in value twenty thousand dollars.
4. The said association may make such by-laws, rules and
regulations, consistent with the laws of this state and of the
United States, as it may deem necessary for the proper gov-
ernment of its members, the management of its affairs, and
the use, enjoyment and control of its property.
_§. The chief place of business of said association shall be
in the city of Richmond.
6. This act shall be in force from its passage.
