Chap. 198.—An ACT to allow Robert A. Atkinson to erect a pier or
wharf on James river, in the county of Isle of Wight.
Approved February 24, 1886.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
Robert H. Atkinson, of the county of Isle of Wight, be and
he is hereby authorized to erect a pier or wharf at Cowdy
island in said county, on James river, and near the mouth of
Chuckatuck creek, for the purpose of shipping and receiving
freight on or from vessels or steamboats, and also for the fur-
ther purpose of putting a store-house on same. The said
Robert H. Atkinson, his heirs or assigns, shall have the right
to charge such compensation for use of said pier or wharf as
may be agreed upon between the parties, or as usual: provided
that the said pier or wharf shall be ten feet from the channel,
and shall in no way interfere with navigation, and shall not be
more than fifty feet wide: provided, also, that this act shall at
all times be under the control of the general assembly, and be
amended or repealed as may be deemed proper.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
