Chap. 11.—An ACT to postpone the sale of delinquent lands in King
William county.
Approved January 12, 1886.
Whereas by an act of the general assembly of Virginia,
approved March nineteenth, eighteen hundred and eighty-four,
it is the duty of the treasurer of King William county to sell
all land in said county delinquent for the non-payment of taxes
for the years from eighteen hundred and sixty-five to eighteen
hundred and eighty-three, inclusive, at the January term, eigh-
teen hundred and eighty-six, of the county court for said
county; and whereas the records of said county were entirely
destroyed by the burning of the clerk’s office of said county on
the seventeenth of January, eighteen hundred and eighty-five:
therefore,
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
the treasurer of King William county be and he hereby is
instructed to postpone such sale until the January term, eigh-
teen hundred and eighty-seven, of said court, thirty days pre-
vious to which time he shall advertise, and at which time he
shall sell delinquent lands, in accordance with existing law.
2. It shall be the duty of the county court for said county,
during the year eighteen hundred and eighty-six, and until sale
is made as provided for herein, on petition filed by any person
mterested in any land returned delinquent, to correct any errors
appearing in the list of delinquent lands for said county and to
remit any taxes erroneously charged therein.
3. In any proceeding under this act the court may hear any
evidence, oral or written, that may be adduced by any party,
and it shall be the duty of the commonwealth’s attorney for
said county to represent the interest of the state in all pro-
ceedings under this act.
4. It shall be the duty of the clerk of the county court of
said county, on or before the first day of the January term of
the county court of said county, eighteen hundred and eighty-
seven, to furnish the treasurer of said county, and the auditor
of public accounts,each with a list, made in accordance with
existing law, of all errors corrected and amounts of taxes
remitted by his court under this act, and the treasurer in
making sales of delinquent lands, and the auditor of public
accounts in making a settlement with the treasurer of said
county, both shall have’ reference to said list so furnished and
be governed by the same.
5. This act shall be in force from its passage.
