Chap. 1.—An ACT for the relief of the tax-payers of the city of
Staunton. - .

Whereas on the twenty-fourth day of September, one thou-
sand eight hundred and eighty-five, the former treasurer of the
city of Staunton disappeared from said city, since which time
he has never been heard of; and whereas his prolonged absence
has so impeded the business of, the office of treasurer of said
eity that the present treasurer, lately appointed, has been unable
to have the tax-tickets made out by the first day of December,
one thousand eight hundred and eighty-five, the tax-payers of
said city could not pay the taxes due by them by or before the
said first day of December, one thousand eight hundred and
eighty-five: therefore, .
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
the treasurer of the city of Staunton shall not add to the taxes
due by said tax-payers for the year one thousand eight hundred
and eighty-five, the five per centum provided by law for failure
to pay prior to the first day of December, one thousand eight
hundred and eighty-five, until the first day of Jamuary, one
thousand eight hundred and eighty-six.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
