Chap. 91.—An ACT to allow George W. Butts to construct a causeway
and erect a wharf or pier from the main land of Shackley Hill farm
to Shackley Hill island, in the Nansemond river, in Nansemond
county, and thence to the old channel of said river, for the purpose
of shipping and receiving freight and passengers.
Approved November 24, 1884.
1. Beit enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
George W. Butts, of the county of Nansemond, be and he is
hereby authorized to construct a causeway from a point on
the Shackley Hill farm, in said county, across the flats to
Shackley Hilt island, and also to erect a wharf or pier on the
opposite side of said island to the edge of the old channel, for
the purpose of shipping and receiving farm produce, goods,
wares, merchandise and oysters for himself and others, and
for the accommodation of passengers; and the said George
W. Butts, his heirs and assigns, shall have the right to charge
such compensation for the use of said wharf as may be here-
after agreed upon by and between the parties, or as are cus-
tomary in the neighborhood: and provided, also, that said
wharf shall not interfere with navigation, and that this act
shall, at all times, be subject to amendment or repeal at the
pleasure ot the general assembly.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
