Chap. 8.—An ACT to allow the deputies of Stephen H. Turner, late
county treasurer of Amherst county, further time to levy for taxes.

Whereas, by reason of the failure of Stephen H. Turner,
late county treasurer of Amherst county, to collect a portion
of his tax bills for the years eighteen hundred and seventy-
nine, eighteen hundred and eighty, eighteen hundred and
eighty-one, and eighteen hundred and eighty-two, within the
time prescribed by law, the collection of the same cannot now
be enforced unless the time for collecting said tax tickets
shall be extended; therefore,
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
Henry Loving, junior, R. H. Drummond, William E. Powell,
and James R. Cunningham, the deputies of said treasurer,
or any or either of them, or such other person or persons as
may be appointed by the county court of said county for that
urpose, shall have full power and authority to collect, by
evy or distress, for the benefit of the sureties of said trea-
surer, on his official bond executed by him on the sixteenth
day of June, eighteen hundred and seventy-nine, the tax
tickets for taxes and levies, both state and county, which are
now in the hands of said treasurer or his sald deputies, and.
which may remain unpaid, and for that purpose said deputies
and such other person or persons as may be appointed as
aforesaid, are hereby granted all of the powers which are
now conferred upon treasurers for the collection of revenue:
provided that the powers conferred by this act shall cease
and determine at the expiration of twelve months from the
passage thereof, except as to such proceeds as shall have been
commenced in pursuance of its provisions.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
