Chap. 72.—An ACT for the relief of the estate of R. S. Slayton and
his widow, Ann Slayton.
Approved November 22, 1884.
Whereas, about February, eighteen hundred and eighty-
two, Ann Slayton, then the wife, now the widow of K. 5S.
Slayton, deceased, was adjudged insane and sent to the luna-
tic asylum at Williamsburg, Virginia; and whereas also,
about March of eighteen hundred and eighty-two, the said R.
S. Slayton died at Danville, Virginia, leaving a small estate,
valued altogether at about six hundred dollars, and James
Wood, sergeant of Danville, became as such the personal rep-
resentative of said R. 8. Slayton; and whereas the said Ann
Slayton has recently been restored to sanity, but has no
means of support except what is afforded her from the estate
of her said husband before mentioned; and whereas, also, the
only child of said Ann Slayton and R. 8. Slayton is a private
in the United States army; and whereas, while said Ann
Slayton was in the asylum, the costs and expense of her
board and support there was greater than her said husband’s
estate was adequate to pay, and there has thus accumulated
against the said estate a considerable sum, nearly or quite
equal to the value of the whole of said estate, which, if pay-
ment be enforced against said estate, will deprive the widow
of said R. 8S. Slayton of the scanty living she now has; and
whereas it is deemed good policy, as well as humanity, to
allow said estate of R. S. Slayton to remain for the support
of his said afflicted widow: now, therefore,
1. Beit enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
the said estate of R. 8. Slayton be, and the same is hereby
relieved and exonerated from the payment of the said lunatic
asylum’s claim against it tor the support, and so forth, of the
said Ann Slayton, and the superintendent and authorities of
said asylum are hereby exonerated and relieved from any
efforts to enforce collection thereof, and directed not to col-
lect it.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
