Chap. 69.—An ACT to amend and re-enact sections 2 and 14 of an act
approved March 8, 1884, entitled an act to provide for working the
public roads in the county of Grayson.
Approved November 22, 1884.
1. Beit enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
sections two and fourteen of an act approved March three,
eighteen hundred and eighty-four, entitled an act to provide
for working the public roads in the county of Grayson, be
amended and re-enacted so as to read as follows:
§ 2. The several magisterial districts in the said county of
Grayson shall be each a separate road district in said county,
and it shall be the duty of the board of supervisors of said
county on the first Monday in June, eighteen hundred and
eighty-five, and every two years thereafter, to appoint one
road commissioner in each of said districts, who shall hold
his office for two years from the date of his appointment,
or until his successor is appointed and qualified. Said com-
missioner shall qualify by taking the oath of office pre-
scribed by the general laws, and enter into bond with good
security in such penalty as may be required and approved by
said board for the faithful performance of his duties as pre-
scribed by this act. If in case of death, resignation or other-
wise, a vacancy shall occur in any of said districts, the said
board of supervisors shall, at their meeting next succeeding
the occurrence of such vacancy, appoint some person to fill
the unexpired term in the office of said road commissioner so
vacated. °
§ 14. It shall be the duty of the officers conducting the elec-
tion in the county of Grayson, in the month of May, eigh-
teen hundred and eighty-five, to receive the ballots of the
qualified voters who shall vote upon this act; which ballots
shall be as follows: “For the road law”; and “Against the
road law.” The ballots so cast shall be deemed and taken
as for or against this act, and the manner of receiving and
canvassing the ballots and making returns thereof shall be in
accordance with existing law, except that the certificates of
the judges shall be as follows:

Should a majority of the votes thus cast be for the road
law, it shall be deemed the adoption thereof. But if a major-
ity of the votes thus cast be against the road law, then the
general road law of the state, approved March eight, eigh-
teen hundred and eighty-four, shall take effect and be in force
in the said county of Grayson. :
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
