Chap. 31.—An ACT to authorize the Judge of the Hustings court of
the city of Richmond to have new copies of Registration Books — in
certain cases, and to repeal chapter 510 of Acts of 1883-4.
Approved August 27, 1884.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
should the registration books of any voting place in the city
of Richmond, from any cause be so defaced, worn, or mutila-
ted, or otherwise unfit for use, as in the opinion of the judge
of the hustings court of said city shall necessitate a copy of
the same to be made, the said court, or the judge thereof in
vacation, upon the application of the registrar of said voting
place, (who shall at the time of such application produce his
book for inspection), and upon being satisfied that the said
book is unfit for further use trom any such cause, shall direct
the clerk of the said court to copy the same, and the copy
when so made, after being duly certified by the said clerk as
correct, shall be delivered to the registrar of such voting
place, and thereafter shall have the same force and effect to
all intents and purposes as the original, and the original shall
remain on file in the clerk’s office of said court.
_ 2. The court shall certify to the city council the amount
of work done, and the said council shall make such allowance
as they may deem sufficient and proper, to the clerk for the
copies of books so made, which allowance shall be paid out
of the treasury of said city.
3. Chapter five hundred and ten, Acts eighteen hundred
and eighty-three-eighty-four, entitled an act authorizing the
electoral board of the city of Richmond to have new copies
of registration books made 1m certain cases, in force March
seventeen, eighteen hundred and eighty-four, is hereby re-
pealed.
4, This act shall be in force from its passage.
