Chap. 190.—An ACT authorizing the board of visitors of the Virginia
Military Institute, to sell and convey certain lots of land not needed
for the purposes of said institution.
Approved December 1, 1884.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
the board ot visitors of the Virginia military institute, be and
said board is authorized to sell, and by proper deed signed
and acknowledged by the president of said board of visitors,
and sealed with the seal thereof, to convey to the purchaser
or purchasers, the two lots of land purchased from the estate
of Mistress Lucy Jordan, deceased, lying in the town of Lex-
ington, Virginia, on either side of the lot owned by Mistress
A. R. Howell, and embracing together not more than six
acres of land, and in like manner, to sell and convey the
whole or any part of either of said lots, the same not being
needed for the purposes of said institute. The said board
will cause the purchase money realized from the sale of said
lots to be applied exclusively to the retirement pro tanto of
the existing mortgage indebtedness of said institution.
2. The said board is further authorized in like manner, to
convey by deed executed as hereinbefore specified, to the
Richmond and Alleghany railroad company, two small strips
or lots of land lying on the north side of Wood creek, extend-
ing along the line of said railroad, through the lots of the
Virginia military institute, not exceeding one hundred feet
in width, heretofore purchased and paid for by said railroad
company, and now occupied by the same.
3. This act shall be in force from its passage.
