Volume 1968 Law 99
Law Body
Chap. 183.—An ACT requiring the superintendent of schools in the
county of Hanover, to pay over to the trustees of Hall’s Free School
in said county, in each and every year from the moneys belonging
to the school fund of Beaver Dam district in said county, a sum equal
to that appropriated to any other school with the like number of
scholars in said district.
Approved December 1, 1884.
Whereas one Aaron Hall, of the county of Hanover, by his
will, devised a certain sum of money for the support of a free
school in the county of Hanover, which devise was legalized
by an act of the general assembly, passed February sixth,
eighteen hundred and forty-six; and whereas the general
assembly by an act in force April two, eighteen hundred and
seventy-three, provided for the continued control of said
Hall’s free school, by the trustees named in said act of Feb-
ruary sixth, eighteen hundred and ‘furty-sixth ; and whereas
the said school fills a place which would otherwise require a
common school to be supported out of the public school fund
of the district; and whereas the people who send their chil-
dren to said school, contribute through their taxes largely to
the support of the common schools of the district, and are
entitled to have some of it spent upon their own children;
and whereas the usefulness of said Hall’s free school would
be largely extended, and the laudable purpose of Aaron Hall
be more fully carried out by an increase of the annual reve-
nue of said school; therefore,
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
the superintendent of public schools of the county of Han-
over, be and he is hereby directed to pay over in each and
every year commencing with eighteen hundred and eighty-
four, out of the school quota for Beaver dam district in the
county of Hanover, to the trustees of Hall’s free school, a sum
equal to the salary paid to any teacher of a school in said
district, whose school has a like attendance of scholars, to
be by them applied to the support of said Hall’s free school.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
