Chap. 168.—An ACT to prevent the spreading of diseases among
domestic animals.
Approved November 29, 1884.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
all hogs that may die from disease, be buried under ground,
or burned, as soon as practicable thereafter by the owner
thereof.
2. In case of failure or refusal to do so, any person may
appear before a justice of the peace of the county and make
complaint thereof, who, thereupon, shall summon the party
in default before him, and in case of his failure or refusal so
to do, he shall order any constable or other person designated
by him, to cause such animal to be buried or burned at the
cost and expense of such party in default, and if no owner
can be ascertained, such burial or burning shall be done at
the public expense of the county.
3. Any person who shall cast any dead animal into any
stream or running water, or public highway, shall be fined
by a justice not exceeding twenty dollars.
4, This act shall be in force from its passage.
