Chap. 101.—An ACT extending the time for the payment of taxes for
the year 1884, in Essex county.
Approved November 24, 1884.
Whereas the assistant commissioner of the revenue for
Essex county, who was engaged in making off the books for
the treasurer, was prevented by illness, for a month, from
completing his books in time, in consequence whereof no op-
portunity has been given to the tax-payers of said county to
avail themselves of the relief of five per centum, provided for
by law in favor of those who pay their taxes before the first
of December, and this through no fault of their own, but be-
cause the commissioner’s books were unavoidably delayed :
1. Beit enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
the treasurer of Essex county be, and he is hereby author-
ized to relieve of the five per centum required to be added on
the first of December, all persons who shall pay their taxes
and levies for the year eighteen hundred and eighty-four, on
or before December the twentieth, eighteen hundred and
eighty-four; and the time for the settlement of the treasurer
is hereby extended for twenty days from the time now re-
quired by law.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
