Chap. 571.—An ACT to authorize the Council of the town of Char-
lottesville to issue bonds and construct water-works.
Approved March 19, 1884.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
the council of the town of Charlottesville is hereby autho-
rized for and on behalf of said town, to issue, or cause to be
issued, bonds to an amount not exceeding one hundred thou-
sand dollars, in such sums as they may prescribe, bearing
interest at a rate not exceeding six per centum per annum,
and payable at such time as they may fix, the same to be
sold or negotiated, and the proceeds used in the location and
construction or purchase of water-works, pipes, mains, reser-
voirs and other appliances for the furnishing of said town,
and the citizens thereof, and persons residing near thereto,
with a supply of water, and where furnished to such citizens
or persons the same to be upon such terms as may be agreed
upon. The aforesaid water-works, pipes, mains, reservoirs,
or other appliances, may be purchased, constructed and ope-
rated jointly by said town and the University of Virginia,
upon such terms as may be agreed upon between the said
council and University, and used fora supply of water for
said town, citizens and persons as aforesaid and the said
Univ ersity.
2. For the purpose of constructing said water-w orks, re-
servoirs and other appliances, and “layi ing said pipes and
mains, the said council shall have the right to enter by their
agents upon and cause to be condemned any land needed for
those purposes in the manner and under the regulations, con-
ditions and restrictions prescribed by law for the condemna-
tion of land for works of internal improvement: provided
however, that not more than one hundred acres of land shall
be so condemned, of which as much as seventy-five acres may
be in one body or parcel.
3. This act shall be in force from its passage.
