Chap. 57.—An ACT to amend section four of an act to incorporate the
Norfolk Terminal Company, approved Murch 6, 1882.
In force January 28, 1884.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
ction four of an act entitled an act to incorporate the Nor-
1k Terminal Company, approved March sixth, eighteen
undred and cighty-two, be amended and re-enacted so as to
ead as follows :
4. The said company is also authorized to construct, at or
ear the harbor of Norfolk, wharves, docks, warehouses, ele-
ators and cotton presses, suitable for the accommodation of
leamships and vessels, and for the convenience of shipping,
ransporting and storing all kinds of merchandise and pro-
erty, and the company may conduct a general dock, wharf,
surchonse, steamship and lighterage business. It may
ransport passengers and freight. and may construct, pur-
hase. or hire steamships and other means of transportation
equixite for its business: provided no such power or privi-
vve is granted it to build, hire or operate a railroad other
hanis granted and restricted in the preceeding sections of this
ct. It may receive on storage all kinds of merchandise, and
nay Charge and collect compensation for storage, wharfaye
nd literage, and tor all labor incident thereto, at such rates
nd upon such terms as may be agreed upon between it and
ts customers ; and for any advances made by it on merchan-
lixe and for all its charges, the company shall have a pre-
erred lien on such merchandise. And it shall be lawful for
ny corporations or persons to enter into contracts with the
Norfolk Terminal Company, for the use, hire, operation, or
lease from said company of its wharves, docks, elevators, ves-
sels, railways, sidings, and other terminal facilities, or any
part or parts thereof’ upon such terms as may be agr ced
upon.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
