Chap. 557.—An ACT to incorporate the Bowling Green Railroad and
Lumber Company.
Approved March 19, 1884.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
L. J. Darden, W. H. Darden, R. B. White, J. J. Phillips, and
W. T. Chandler, or such of them as may accept the provis-
ions of this act, be and they are hereby constituted a body
politic and corporate, by the name of the Bowling Green Rail-
road and Lumber Company, for the purpose of manufacturing
lumber, cutting wood, and otherwise operating in the same,
and for the purpose of transporting lumber, merchandise,
and produce, and by that name, may sue and be sued.
2. That the said company shall have the powers, rights,
and franchises necessary and proper to locate, construct, and
maintain a railroad (with full power to condemn land for
that purpose), for the purpose of transporting wood, lumber,
and such produce and merchandise as may be brought them
for transportation, from the Norfolk and Western railroad,
at or near Windsor station, in Isle of Wight county, to a
point on Cypress creck, at or near Shirer’s landing, in said
county, with the privilege of constructing branch roads, none
of which shall exceed fifteen miles in length.
3. That the said company shall have power to hold and
employ such machinery and appliances as their business may
require, and may purchase and hold such lands and timber
as may be necessary for the successful operation of said busi-
ness and road.
4. The capital of said company shall not be less than five
thousand dollars, nor more than thirty thousand dollars.
5. The said company shall have power to Jrauld a wharf
on Cypress creck, at or near the said Shirer’s landing, and
for that purpose may condemn land not exc weeding one acre.
6. The said railroad shall be commenced in two years, and
completed in six years after the passage of this act.
7. This act shall be in force from its passage.
