Chap. 529.—An ACT to authorize the city of Winchester and county
of Frederick to lease, give, or sell, certain land for the erection of an
opera-house, etc.
Approved March 18, 1884.
1. Beit enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
the common council of the city of Winchester, and the board
of supervisors of the county of Frederick, or either, are here-
by authorized and empowered to give, lease for a long term
of years, or sell, upon such conditions as shall seem proper,
any portion of ‘the ground between Water and Hoff streets,
or Courthouse avenue, in one direction, and Market street
and the property of the late John Kerr, S. F. Gaenslen, the
late J. Senseny, the courthouse and the clerk’s office, in the
other direction, in Winchester, according to the interest of
said city, or of said county of Frederick, in said ground, to
any incorporated company, whether incorporated heretofore
or hereafter, for the purpose of erecting thereon an academy
of music, open under such charyves and conditions as such
company, or the board of directors, or the proper officers
thereof, shall determine, for musical, dramatic and other en-
tertainments, and meetings of general interest.
