Chap. 514.—An ACT to amend an actapproved March 9, 1880, respec-
ting wild game.
Approved March 18, 1884.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
it shall not be lawful west of the Blue Ridge mountains, to
kill or capture pheasants or wild turkeys, between February
first and September fifteenth, and partridges between Jan-
uary first and October fifteenth, or deer between January
first and August fifteenth, nor elsewhere in the state, par-
tridges, pheasants, or wild turkeys between January fifteenth
and October fifteenth, or deer between January first and
August fifteenth; nor shall it be lawful, within the state,
to take or destroy the eggs of any such wild fowl, or to catch
any such wild fowl with nets or traps; and the possession of
any such oggs or wild game shall be prima facie evidence of
a violation of this act: provided that in the county of Rock-
bridge no one shall be allowed to capture or kill partridges
between the fifteenth day of January and the fifteenth day of
October of each year.
2. This act shall be given in charge to the grand juries,
and violation of the same shall be punished as a misde-
meanor.
3. The board of supervisors of each county, at their July
annual meeting, shall award a premium of ten dollars for
each wolf scalp; and one dollar and filty cents for each scalp
of wild cat, catamount, or red fox ; and seventy-five cents for
each scalp of gray fox; and fifty cents for cach sealp of
chicken hawk or owl, except screech owl, upon satisfactory
evidence that the same were respectively killed within the
limits of the county and by the person in whose behalf the
same may be presented, to be paid on warrant of said board
on the county treasurer. All acts and paris of acts in con-
flict herewith are hereby repealed.
4. This act shall be in force from its passage, but this act
shall not apply to any county having a special game law un-
less by consent of the board of supervisors of such county.
