Chap. 498.—An ACT toincorporate the White Oak Loan and Building
Aid Association of Halifax.
Approved March 17, 1884.
1. Beit enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
J. Russell, Junior, Thomas M. Dodson, James A. Dyson, P. P.
Royall, Mike Brown, White Haynes, and R. M. Oliver, their
associates and successors, be and they are hereby incorpora-
ted and made a body politic under the name and title of the
White Oak Loan and Building Aid Association, and as such
shall have the power to sue and be sued, contract and be con-
tracted with, plead and be impleaded, purchase, lease and
hold, rent, sell and convey, in its corporate capacity, pro-
perty, real, personal and mixed, and do all and any other acts
for the promotion of its object not inconsistent with the laws
and constitution of this state and the United States appli-
cable to such corporations.
2. The objects of this association are to aid in promoting
the building and acquirement of houses by loans of moncy,
and the accumulation of a fund for that purpose, by loans or
otherwise, as may be adopted by the said association; also to
aid in a benevolent way those who become members and are
in needy and destitute circumstances.
3. The said association may enact a constitution and by-
laws for its government, and may alter and amend the same
at pleasure; and may elect a president, secretary, auditor and
treasurer, and such otber officers as it may deem necessary
and proper for the carrying on of its lawful business. It may
determine the mode and manner of proceeding in the admis-
sion of members, and the person or persons entitled to vote
therein.
4, Any aeven members or more shall constitute a quorum
for the transaction of business at the regular or any called
meeting of said association.
