Chap. 490.—An ACT giving the consent of the state of Virginia, to
the acquisition by the government of the United States, of so much
land as may be necessary for a public building at Newport News.
Approved March 17, 1884.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
ihe Consent OL the state ot Virginia is hereby given and
granted to the purchase or acquisition by the government of
the United States. or under authority of the same, of’ so much
land as may be required. not exceeding in arex one acre, for
asite for a public building. tor the accommodation of the
court-house, post-office, and other necessary uses of the
United States, at Newport News, in the county of Warwick,
and state of Virginia.
2. That the state of Virginia retains concurrent jurisdic-
tion with the United States, over such land, 80 that courts,
mMavistrates, and officers of the state of Vireinia, may take
such couvnizance, execute such process, and ‘Uise harge such
other legal functions within the same, as may not be incom-
patible with the consent hereby given.
3. The lots, parcels, or tracts of land so acquired, together
with the tenements and Appurtenanees for the purposes be-
fore mentioned, shall be held exempt from all state, county,
and municipal taxation, sO long ay the United States shall be
aud remain the owners thereof.
4. This act shall be in force from its passage.
