Chap. 461.—An ACT for the relief of the sureties of John A. Booker,
late treasurer of the county of Cumberland.
Approved March 17, 1884.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
the auditor of public accounts is hereby authorized and di-
rected to accept from William C. Carson, Lineas B. Agee, L.
E. Agee, F. B. Robertson, B. B. Woodson, William E. Booker,
George E. Booker, James B. Layne, E. P. Davis, Goode Hen-
drick, and A. W. Budd, sureties of John A. Booker, late
treasurer of Cumberland county, on his official bond, executed
on the twenty-cighth day of June, one thousand eight hun-
dred and seventy-five, or any one or more of them, in full
satisfaction of their indebtedness under said bond, to the
state of Virginia, the bonds of the state of Virginia, with all
unpaid coupons attached, issued under the act of February
fourteenth, eighteen hundred and eighty-two, to the amount
of the balance now due for the revenue of the county of Cum-
berland, for the year one thousand cight hundred and
seventy-eight, with interest at the rate of six per centum per
annum. And the said auditor is also hereby authorized and
directed to accept in full satisfaction and settlement from
William M. Foster, Samuel F. Coleman, Lineas B. Agee, L.
EK. Agee, F. B. Robertson, Isaiah Brightwell, P. C. Smith, A.
B. Agee, William C. Carson, Goode Hendrick, William E.
Booker, T. J. Parrish, B. B. Woodson, and George E. Booker,
sureties of the said John A. Booker, late treasurer of Cum-
berland county, on his official bond, executed on the twenty-
third day of June, one thousand eight hundred and seventy-
nine, or any one or more of them. the bonds of the state of
Virginia, hereinbefore described, with all unpaid coupons at-
tached, to the amount of the balance now due for the reve-
nue of the county of Cumberland, to the state, for the years
one thousand eight hundred and seventy-nine, one thousand
eight hundred and eighty, and one thousand ei¢ht hundred
and eighty-one, by reason of the default of the said John A.
Booker, with interest thereon, at the rate of six per centum
per annum. Nothing herein contained, shall be construed as
releasing the said John A. Booker, from his liability for the
difference between the amount now due by him, and the
market value of the bouds hereby directed to be received:
provided the said bonds shall be paid to the treasurer within
six months after the passage of this act: provided further,
that this act shall not take effect unless the said sureties of
the said Jobn A. Booker shall, within ninety days trom the
passage of this act, confess judement in the circuit court of
the city of Richmond, for the whole amount of said Booker’s
indebtedness to the commonwealth, the first name: sureties
for the amount due by the said Booker, for the year one thou-
sand eight hundred and seventy-eight; and the last named
for the amount due by him, for the years eighteen hundred
and seventy-nine, one thousand eight hundred and eighty,
and one thousand eight hundred and eighty-one.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
