Chap. 426.—An ACT for the relief of the surcties of B. C. Clark, late
treasurer of Washington county.
Approved March 15, 1884.
1. Beit enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
the auditor of public accounts be and he is bereby authorized
and directed to accept trom John G. Clark, J. F. Jones, R.
R. Hughes, John D. Blackwell, David Clark, KE. D. Ricketts,
Isaac G. Clark, Thomas P. Hendricks, D. KE. Price, S. M.
Withers, M. LL. Withers, Isaac A. Worley, John M. Hamilton,
John B. Hamilton, W. G. G. Lowry, and G. V. Litchfield, or
such of them as shall elect to avail themselves of the pro-
visions of this act, sureties of B. C. Clark, late treasurer of
Washington county, upon his official bond of date the twenty-
third day of June, eighteen hundred and seventy-nine, and
the renewal thereof, or any of them, the bonds of the atate
of Virginia, with all aforesaid coupons attached, issued under
the act of February fourteenth, eighteen hundred and eighty-
two, to the amount of the balance now due of the revenue of
Washington county for the years eighteen hundred and
eighty-one—two, including license taxes, computing the in-
terest thereon at the rate of six per centum per annum, by
reason of the default of the said B. C. Clark. Nothing herein
contained shall be construed as releasing said B.C. Clark
from his liability for the difference between the amount due
by him, and the market value of the bonds so received: pro-
vided the said bonds shall be paid to the treasurer within one
year from the passayve of this act: and provided further, that
this act shall not take effect unless the said named securities,
or such of them as against whom no judgment has been ob-
tained, shall, within ninety days from the passave of this act,
confess judgment in the circuit court of the city of Richmond
for the whole amount of the balance of said B. C. Clark's in-
debtedness to the commonwealth.
