Chap. 424.—An ACT to amend and re-enact sections 1, 2 and 4 of an
act entitled an act to incorporate the Meherrin Valley Ruilroad, ap-
proved March 14, 1878.
Approved March 14, 1884.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
sections one, two and four of an act to incorporate the
Meberrin Valley Railroad company, approved March four-
teenth, eighteen hundred and seventy-eigbt, be amended and
re-enacted to read as follows:
§1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia,
That A. H. Sheppard, M. T. Dill, W. H. Care, B. D. Tillar,
W. T. Dill, and such persons and corporations as may become
associated with them in the manner hereinafter provided,
shall be, and they are hereby constituted a body politic and
corporate, by the name of the Mecherrin Valley railroad, and
by that name shall have all the powers, rights, and privi-
leges necessary and proper to locate, construct and main-
tain a railroad, to be known as the Mecherrin Valley railroad,
to begin at a point in Greenesville county, on the boundary
line between the said county and the state of North Carolina,
and to run through the counties of Greenesville, Brunswick,
and Mecklenburg, to Clarksville, with the right to construct
a branch road from any point on the line of said main road,
through the county of Southampton to Branchville.
§2. That the capital stock of said company shall not ex-
ceed the sum of twenty thousand dollars for each and every
mile of road constructed, to be divided into shares of one
hundred dollars each; and whenever twenty-five thousand
dollars shall be subscribed, the subscribers shall be incor-
porated by the name, and for the purposes aforesaid, with
power and authority to effect the same.
§4. It shall be lawful for the said company to purchase
and use any connecting roads which are not competing or
parallel lines, and to operate the same, and to acquire, in sub-
scription or otherwise, Jands, mines, property, materials, or
labor, and to receive subscriptions from other compunies, as-
sociations and corporations, and to make such arrangements
as shall be mutually agreed upon by the respective boards of
directors for such companies, associations, and corporations
for the endorsement of sale and exchange of stocks and bonds,
as to increase facilities for a speedy completion of said road;
and the said company may sell, lease, or otherwise dispose of
any lands or other property acquired under this section, at
their pleasure.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
