Chap. 302.—An ACT to provide for a new registration in the city of
Winchester and county of Fairfax.
In force March 7, 1884.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
each of the registrars of the several precincts of the city of
Winchester shall, on Wednesday, the second day of April,
eighteen hundred and eighty-four, proceed to register the
names of all the qualified voters of his precinct who reside
therein, and according to law are entitled to registration,
giving notice of the time and place thereot for at least five
days before commencing such registration, by publication of
said notice in two newpapers published in said city, and by
posting printed notices thereof at ten public places within
his precinet. Said registrars shall complete said registration
within six days trom the time of commencing the same, and
immediately after completing the said registration, shall cause
to be posted at three or more public places in their respective
precincts, printed lists of all persons admitted by them to
reyvistration.
2. In all other respects except as herein provided, the
duties of said registrar shall be as prescribed in the general
registration laws of the state, and in making said ragistra-
tion, and in all registrations hereafter, the registrars shall, in
every particular, except as hereinafter provided, be guided
and controlled by the said general registration laws of the
state; and the registration thus made, shall have the same
force and virtue as though the same had heen made under
the general registration laws of the state. and shall be revised,
altered, aud amended in the mode prescribed in such laws.
The rewixtration made under this act shall take the place of
all registrations hereafter made in said city.
3. The secretary of the commonwealth shall furnish the
clerk of the corporation court of the city of Winchester with
s0 many registration-books as may be necessary to carry out
the provisions of this act.
4. This act shall apply also to the county of Fairfax, except
that the notice of registration in said county shall be pub-
lished in the Fairfax Herald, or some paper published at the
county seat of said county, and the secretary of the com-
monwealth shall furnish the clerk of the circuit court of the
county of Fairfax with so many registration-books as may
be necessary to carry out the provisions of this act.
3. This act shall be i in force from its passage.
