Chap. 287.—An ACT to amend the charter of Lafayette Lodge, No. 9,
Independent Order of Odd Fellows.
Approved March 4, 1884.
Whereas Lafayette Lodge, nnmber nine, Independent Order
of Odd Fellows, at Norfolk, has invested six thousand dollars
for the bencfit of its benevolences s; and whereas it now has
more money which it wishes to invest for the same purposes;
therefore,
1. Beit enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
R. J. Taylor, Henry Wetzel, and M. J. McDonald, and their
successors in office, elected in accordance with the by-laws of
said lodge, be and they are hereby created a body politic and
corporate by the name of the trustees of Lafayette Lodge,
number nine, Independent Order of Odd Fellows, at Norfolk,
Virginia, and by that name may sue and be sued, plead and
be impleaded, and do all and every act necessary to enjoy the
powers hercinafter conferred.
2. The said trustees shall hold all the property of said
lodge, and whenever directed so to do by said lodge, they are
hereby authorized to lend out, invest, or otherwise dispose of
any money or other property belonging to them, in such
manner as they shall be required, by a vote of the members
of said lodge, in regular mecting assembled.
3. All property, Teal or personal, and all choses in action
which shall come to the hands of the said trustees, shall be
held by them for the exclusive use and _ benefit of the said
Lafayette lodge, number nine, and shall be at all times subject
to the control of the said lodge.
4. The charter granted by an act of the general assembly,
on December twenty-first, eighteen hundred and forty-six,
entitled an act authorizing the Independent Order of Odd
Fellows, of Norfolk city and town of Portsmouth to hold a
limited amount of property in its application to this said
Lafayette lodge, is hereby annulled.
5. This act shall be in force from its passage
