Chap. 286.—An ACT to amend and re-enact sections 2 of an act ap-
proved April 28, 1874, amending an act entitled an act to amend an
act to incerporate the town of Rocky Mount in the county of Frank-
lin, in force February 17, 1873.
Approved March 4, 1834.
1. Be itenacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
the second section of the act approved April the twenty-
eighth, eighteen hundred and seventy-four, entitled an act to
amend an act to incorporate the town of Rocky Mount in
the county of Franklin, in toree February seventeenth, cigh-
teen hundred and seventy-three, be amended and re-enacted
yo as to read as follows
§2. The corporate limits and bounds of the said town shall
be as follows: Beginning at a persimmon tree in the field of
John Saunders, dece ased; thence east two hundred and forty
poles, crossing ‘the Franklin and Pittsylvania turnpike road
toastake; thence north two hundred and forty poles, cross-
ing Glade Hill road to a stake in lot of John Poindexter;
thence west two hundred and for ty poles, crossing the rail-
road to a stake; thence south two hundred and torty poles,
to the beginning. A plat of said town, as herein laid off,
shall be made and returned to the clerk’s office of Franklin
county, and recorded.
2. The council of said town shall be authorized and em-
powered to borrow such sums of money as may be requisite
or necessary for making improvements in the corporate
limits of said town: provided the same shall not exceed the
sum of two thousand dollars, and bear interest at a rate not
exceeding six per centum perannum. The council may issue
registered or coupon bonds, to be known as Rocky Mount
bonds, redeemable within a period not greater than thirty
years from the date thereof, and shall provie for the prompt
payment of the interest thereon, as it shall become due, and a
sinking fund for the redemption of the principal of the same,
by a tax upon the property within the corporate limits of
said town
3. This act shall be in force from its passaye.
