Chap. 250.—An ACT to authorize the Washington, Ohio, and Western
Railroxd Company to make contracts of lease and consolidation with
certain other railroad companies, and to connect, cross, and unite with
certain other railroads.
Approved March 3, 1884.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
the Washington, Ohio, and Western railroad company be and
are hereby authorized to cross at grade, unite, or connect
with or lease, use or operate, or be leased, used or operated
by any railro ad company in the state of Virginia now con-
structed or in process of construction, or with the Vi irginia
and West Virginia railroad company, or any one of said rail-
road companies, and with any other railroad company or com-
panies which now are or may hereafter be leased by or used
or operated with any one or more of such railroad companics,
and with the consent of a majority of the stockholders to
consolidate its capital stock, property, and franchises, by
change of name or otherwise, with those of any one or more
of such railroad companies; and power is hereby granted to
such railroad companies to make and carry out with the like
consent of their stockbolders, such contracts of consolidation
and lease: provided however, that the Washington, Ohio, and
Western railroad company shall not consolidate with any
parallel or competing line: and provided also, that in all con-
solidations a copy of the agreement is filed in the office of the
secretary of the commonwealth, and that any company with
which it may so consolidate or be leased by, shall forever
remain subject to the general laws of Virginia, and to the
jurisdiction of its courts: and provided further, that in the
construction or extension of the said W ashington, Ohio, and
Western railroad beyond its present terminus at Round. Hill,
in Loudoun county, Virginia, the provisions of the charters of
the Alexandria, Loudoun, and Ifampshire railroad company,
and the Washington and Ohio railroad company, as to the
location of said road, and to making the town of Winchester
a point thereon, shall be fully carr ied out; and this no matter
what the future name of said company shall be, or with what
company or companies it may be consolidated, under the pro-
visions of this act.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
