Chap. 147.—An ACT to apportion the representation of the state of
Virginia in the Congress of the United States.
In force February 22, 1884.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
the representation of the state of Virginia i in the congress of
the United States, shall be and is hereby apportioned as
tollows:
The counties of Accomac, Northampton, Lancaster, Rich-
mond. Northumberland, Westmoreland, Gloucester, Middle-
sex. Mathews, Essex, King & Queen, Caroline, Spotsylvania,
and the city of Fredericksburg, shall form the first congres-
sional district.
The cities of Norfolk, Williamsburg, and Portsmouth, and
the counties of Princess Anne, Norfolk, Nansemond, Isle of
Wight, Southampton, Elizabeth City, Warwick, York, James
City, Charles City, and Surry, shall form the second con-
uressional district.
The cities of Richmond and Manchester, and the counties
of Henrico, Goochland, Chesterfield, New Kent, Hanover, and
King William, shall form the third congressional district.
The city of Petersburg, and the counties of Prince George,
Sussex, Dinwiddie, Greenesville, Brunswick, Mecklenburg,
Lunenburg, Nottoway, Amelia, Powhatan, and Prince Ed-
ward, shall form the fourth congressional district.
The city of Danville, the town of North Danville, and the
counties of Pittsylvania, Franklin, Floyd, Henry, Patrick,
Carroll, and Grayson, shall form the fifth congressional dis-
trict.
The city of Lynchburg, and the counties of Botetourt,
Roanoke, Montgomery, Bedtord, Campbell, Charlotte, and
Halitux, shall form the sixth congressional district.
The cities of Winchester, Charlottesville, and the counties
of Frederick, Clar ke, Warren, Rappahannock, Madison, Greene,
Albemarle, Rockingham, Shenandoah, and Page, shall form
the seventh congressional district. |
The city of Alexandria, and the counties of Loudoun, Fair-
fax. Alexandria, Fauquier, Culpeper, Orange. Louisa, King
George, Stattord, and Prince Wilham, shall “form the eighth
coneressional district.
The counties of Lee, Scott. Wise, Dickenson, Buchanan,
tussell, Washington, Smyth, Bland, Tazewell, Wythe, Pu-
laski, Giles, and Craig, shall form the ninth congressional
district.
The city of Staunton, and the counties of Augusta, High-
land, Bath, Alleghany, Rockbridge, Amherst, Nelson. Appo-
muttox, Buckingham. Fluvanna, and Cumberland, shall form
the tenth congressional district.
2. Each of said districts shall choose one representative of
thix state in the congress of the United States.
3. This act shall be in force from its passave.
