Chap. 141.—An ACT to refund to James Wond, sergeant of the city
of Danville, one hundred dollars.
Approved February 22, 1884.
Whereas Henry Sutherlin and Nelson Lemon, together with
several other prisoners, did, some time in the month of Feb-
ruary, eighteen hundred and eighty-two, make their escape
from the jail of the city of Danville; and whereas James
Wood, the sergeant of Danville, and Keeper of said jail, did,
by advertisement published in the Daily Register of the said
city of Danville, offer a reward of fifty dollars each for the
apprehension and delivery of the aforesaid prisoners at the
said jail; and whereas by reason of the aforesaid advertise-
ment, two of said prisoners, Nelson Lemon and Henry Suth-
crlin, charged with felony, were recaptured and imprisoned
in said jail; and whereas the escape of said prisoners is not
due to any negligence on the part of the said James Wood;
and whereas the said James Wood has paid out of his own
personal funds the sum of one hundred dollars for the appre-
hension of the said Sutherlin and Lemon; therefore,
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
the auditor of public accounts be, and he is hereby authorized
and directed, to issue his warrant on the treasurer of the
state, in favor of the said James Wood, for the sum of one
hundred dollars. .
2. This act shall bein force from its passage.
