Chap. 117.—An ACT to amend and re-enact the 4th section of chapter
82 of the Code of 1873, in regard to the appointment of Directors of
Lunatic Asylums.
In torce February 18, 1884.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
section four, chapter eighty-two, Code of Virginia, eighteen
hundred and seventy-three, be amended and re- enacted so as
to read as follows
§ 4. The directors of the Central, Eastern and Western
lunatic asylums, respectively, shall be elected by the board of
public works of Virginia every three years, and all vacancies
that shall occur in said boards so elected during any term of
ottice. shall be filled by the board of public works for the un-
expired term. The board of public works shall select and
appoint members of said boards of directors with reference
solely to fitness and business qualification without regard to
party affiliation. Any member of said boards of directors
may be removed at any time by the order of the board of
public works, which shall cause to be entered upon its
minutes the order of removal and the cause of removal.
2. All acts and parts of acts inconsistent herewith are
herehy repealed.
3. This act shall be in force trom date of its passage.
